RTÉ HAS JUST launched a new online Irish-language news service through the RTÉ.ie website and RTÉ News Now mobile app.
Online operations will be based in Nuacht RTÉ’s centre in Baile na hAbhann, Connemara, with articles being written by both Nuacht RTÉ and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta journalists.
According to a statement by RTÉ, the new service will contain regional, national world news exclusively in Irish for the first time.
It is available here.
RTÉ Director General Noel Curran said this morning’s launch was proof of the broadcaster’s commitment to Irish, and was brought about by reallocating existing resources.
This is an exciting new development, creating Ireland’s first multimedia Irish language operation across two sites.

Regions other than Dublin are central to RTÉ’s public service remit, and this announcement comes on foot of the recent opening of the new regional studio in Athlone IT, following similar openings in Waterford and Dundalk.
