Samsung ditches the plastic design for a metal Galaxy phone

The Galaxy Alpha has a similar design to the Galaxy S5 and is one of the thinnest smartphones it has created.

SAMSUNG HAS ANNOUNCED a new smartphone which sees it ditching its traditional plastic build for a metal frame.

The Galaxy Alpha, which was announced today, is one of the slimmest Galaxy phones it’s created (6.7mm), has a 4.7-inch display and has a 12MP camera.

The phone includes a number of features found on the Galaxy S5 including a finger print scanner, Ultra-Power Saving Mode as well as connectivity with the company’s smartwatches. The removable back cover has also been retained and the shape and design is similar to its Galaxy S range.

And chances are this design will be a more common feature of Samsung’s smartphones. The company called it its “new design approach” and an evolution of how Galaxy devices are designed suggesting that this style will become more prominent if the Alpha is successful.

The phone will be available in a number of colours at the beginning of September, but a price for it has yet to be announced.

The company will also be announcing its latest addition to the Galaxy Note range on 3 September, which could also follow a similar design.
