Saudi prince convicted of servant's murder

Bandar Abdulaziz was found beaten and strangled in a central London hotel last February.

A SAUDI PRINCE CHARGED WITH THE murder of his servant in central London in February has been found guilty.

Saud Abdulaziz bin Nasser al Saud, 34, had admitted manslaughter but denied murdering Bandar Abdulaziz, 32.

Abdulaziz was found beaten and strangled in a London hotel on 15 February, the BBC reports.

CCTV footage from the hotel showed al Saud attacking Abdulaziz in the lift a couple of weeks before the murder. He was also convicted of causing grievous bodily harm in that incident.

The court heard that the prince was “deeply abusive” and had frequently attacked his servant for his “own personal gratification”. Abdulaziz was so injured from previous assaults that he did not fight his murder.

The PA reports that al Saud thought he had diplomatic immunity, and spent hours on the phone after committing the murder to find out how he could cover up the death.

In court, the prince’s lawyers tried to cover up evidence of his homosexuality, which he could be executed for in Saudi Arabia.

The jury deliberated for just over an hour and a half before delivering its verdict. Al Saud will be sentenced tomorrow.
