Savannah Guthrie during first TV interview since her mother's disappearance Today/NBC News

‘We are in agony’: US TV host Savannah Guthrie gives first interview since mother’s disappearance

Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her home in Arizona in the early hours of 1 February.

US TELEVISION HOST Savannah Guthrie has said she and her family are in “unbearable agony” after her mother was apparently kidnapped nearly two months ago.

Guthrie is best known as the main co-presenter of NBC News’s morning show Today.

She has given her first television interview since her mother went missing with fellow NBC News host Hoda Kotb.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her home in Arizona in the early hours of 1 February.

Security footage released by authorities showed a masked, apparently armed, man at her house but since then, the trail has gone cold.

No suspect has been identified and announcements of potential clues – including discarded gloves – have not led to further progress.

“Someone needs to do the right thing,” Guthrie says in the interview.

“We are in agony, we are in agony. It is unbearable.

“And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night, and in the darkness I imagine her terror and it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought.

“And I will not hide my face, she needs to come home now.”

Guthrie’s comments came in a clip shared on her television show, Today, with the network saying other parts of the interview will be released tomorrow and Friday.

Kotb today said “there is a desperation and also a steeliness about Savannah”.

“She’s hoping that somebody, whoever this person is, will see something and say something.”

Kotb said Guthrie also speaks in the clips which will be published later this week about the investigation and her faith.

“You’ll see how she talks about how God is holding her hand.

“I was sort of marvelling that she was able to sit there and have a conversation and have direct thoughts about what she sees going forward.”

Guthrie previously offered a $1 million reward for a tip leading to the recovery of her mother, while at the same time acknowledging that “she may already be gone.”

The FBI has offered $100,000 for information.
