Crash victims left injured in car for three days after it was reported to police

The man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency services eventually got to him.

AN INVESTIGATION BY the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner is being carried out in Scotland after a couple who were involved in a car crash were found three days after the incident was reported to police.

The couple’s car was found yesterday and the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene while his girlfriend was taken to hospital and is currently in critical condition.

The force has admitted that the crash had been reported on Sunday morning but was never followed up. Police believe the two people are John Yuill and Lamara Bell who had been reported missing earlier this week. An appeal for information had been launched, with police saying Monday their disappearance was “completely out of character”.

“As part of our investigation into this incident, it has come to light that a call was made to police late on Sunday morning regarding a car which was reported as being off the road,” explained Assistant Chief Constable Kate Thomson of Police Scotland. “For reasons currently being investigated, that report was not followed up at the time. Following a call this morning, officers attended the scene.”

Officers have notified the families of this update. Our thoughts are with both families at this difficult time.

An investigation is now underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
