Security alert in Carrickfergus was 'elaborate hoax'

A number of controlled explosions were carried out on the devices in County Antrim.

TWO SUSPICIOUS OBJECTS that prompted a security alert in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim last night have been labelled as ‘elaborate hoaxes’.

Dozens of local residents were evacuated from their homes in Broadlands Gardens following the discovery of the objects.

Bomb disposal experts examined the scene for several hours, and shortly before 9pm declared the devices to be ‘elaborate hoaxes’. A number of controlled explosions were carried out.

Residents were permitted returned to their homes soon afterwards.
