Security guard attacked with metal bars in cash raid

The man was on his way to fill an ATM with cash when he was assaulted by two men.

A SECURITY GUARD was attacked by two men wielding metal bars as he went to fill an ATM with cash at a shopping centre earlier today.

The man was servicing a cash machine at the centre on the Dublin Road in Maynooth, Co Kildare when the assault was carried out at around 10.45am. The two men fled the scene with a security box containing a quantity of cash.

The security man was not seriously injured. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, which they believe also involved a third man driving a getaway car.

One of the raiders was described as 5ft 11in tall and of medium build, wearing a navy hoodie, beige trousers and black and white runners. The second man was wearing blue jeans, a grey top and a black jacket.

It’s thought the car involved was a green Mazda 323 hatchback.

Anyone who was in the area between 10.30am and 11am this morning is asked to call Maynooth garda station on 01 6292380.
