Man dies after van collides with wall

A passenger in the van was brought to hospital with injuries described as ‘not serious’.

A MAN HAS died and another man has been injured in a single-vehicle collision in Portlaoise.

Gardaí in Portlaoise are investigating the road traffic collision, which occurred on the Borris Road on the outskirts of Portlaoise tonight at approximately 7.30pm.

They said that a man in his 30s was fatally injured when the van he was driving collided with a wall.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and a second male who was a passenger in the van was brought to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

The passenger’s injuries are described as ‘not serious’.

This stretch of road is currently closed for garda forensic collision investigators to carry out an examination. Local diversions are in place.
