SIPTU calls on councils to honour agreement
Bin collection dispute continues.
SIPTU HAS CALLED on the managers of four Dublin authorities to honour agreements made with the union on the development of waste disposal services.
Union members met today at Liberty Hall to discuss the outsourcing of waste disposal services. The dispute arose after Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to outside its bin collection services to a private firm.
A strike threatened by bin collectors in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown last week was deferred by SIPTU members after the union agreed to enter discussions with the council.
Siptu also called on the government to regulate the waste disposal market “before it descends into chaos.”
The Labour Relations Commission will oversee talks between the disputing parties next week.
