A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy has been suspended from school after quoting lyrics from a song by pop duo LMFAO.
D’Avonte Meadows, from Aurora, Colorado, was disciplined for sexual harassment after telling a classmate “I’m sexy and I know it” – a lyric from LMFAO’s chart hit of the same name.
The children were standing in the lunch queue at the time. “I only just said the song,” Meadows told Denver’s 7News.
Sable Elementary School has declined to comment on the case. However, Meadows’ mother Stephanie told KSDK News she was “floored” by the decision.
I can understand if he was fondling her, looking up her skirt, trying to look in her shirt. That to me is sexual harassment [...] They’re going to look at him like he’s a pervert. And it’s like, that’s not fair to him.
She said her son had previously got in trouble for quoting the same song and “shaking his booty”.
Aurora Public Schools issued a statement Thursday saying it is trying to provide an equal learning environment for all students.
“We have policies and protocol in place to prevent any disruption to the learning environment. Due to privacy laws, we are unable to discuss appropriate disciplinary consequences about a specific student,” wrote spokeswoman Paula Hans.
It’s not the first time novelty electro-pop outfit LMFAO have stirred controversy. Their song Party Rock was the soundtrack to a memorable performance at last year’s Rose of Tralee Festival.
