You can now tour the city’s museums and galleries from your iPhone or desktop, thanks to a new virtual culture trail.

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING to do in Dublin this weekend?

A new social media project which includes Facebook, Twitter, and an iPhone app has been launched to provide information on 16 cultural location and a range of events around Dublin.

Dublin Culture Trail is a free web-based cultural tour of Dublin, and the app includes GPS and maps to help users navigate the city.

It was funded by the Department of Tourism and was a Temple Bar Cultural Trust initiative in partnership with a consortium of Digital Hub companies including Software Design, Red Diamond Media and Davis Events.

Officially launching the project yesterday, Senator David Norris said Dublin Culture Trail is a new way of making the museums and galleries “more accessible on a daily basis to the public both around the country and internationally”.

Gráinne Millar of the Temple Bar Cultural Trust said the project aims to increase visitors to participating venues by up to 20 per cent in its first year.

Dublin Culture Trail includes videos, photos, venue backgrounds and opening hours. An Android app is in the pipeline.
