STAFF AT A mail-handling centre who were evacuated from the facility after two people reported suffering from skin irritation have returned to the centre.

Witnesses at the Abtran facility in Mahon Industrial Estate, Bessboro Road, Cork reported that gardaí in hazmat suits were on the scene.

Nothing suspect was found and the two staff members who reported the symptoms are safe and well, a statement from Abtran said.

The company, which operates a contact centre at Mahon, said that at around 11.30am today, two members of staff working in the mail-receiving centre experienced skin irritation symptoms. The cause of this is not known, it said.

As a precaution, Abtran had asked staff to leave the premises “until the cause of this matter can be properly identified”.

At 1.30pm, the company sent out an update that said the matter has been stood down, and that operations were resuming as normal.

All staff are returning to the building. The emergency services are departing.

Nothing suspect has been found.

Gardaí said that emergency services were currently at the scene of an incident at Mahon Industrial Estate, Cork city.
