The warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford will remain in place until 12pm tomorrow.

A STATUS YELLOW rain warning will come into effect for six counties from midnight.

The warning for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork and Waterford will remain in place until 12pm tomorrow afternoon.

Met Éireann said the persistent rain, which will be heavy at times, could lead to localised flooding, difficult travel conditions and poor visibility in the affected counties.

The forecaster said the weather is set to remain unsettled for the week with frequent spells of wet and blustery weather.

Outbreaks of rain will continue in Munster and south Leinster tonight, with temperatures reaching lows of 9 to 13 degrees.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with some mist and fog. Heavy rain will continue in the south and east in the morning, though this will gradually ease through the day.

It will be drier elsewhere with scattered showers or outbreaks of rain and limited bright spells. Temperatures will reach between 13 and 16 degrees.

Wednesday will bring more widespread rain, which is expected to be heavy in some western areas. The rain will ease towards the evening and it will become breezier with southwest winds increasing.
