Suspicious package delivered to Donald Trump's Doonbeg golf resort deemed safe, gardaí say

Gardaí were alerted after a package was delivered yesterday evening.

A SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE found at Donald Trump’s Doonbeg golf resort has been deemed safe and a security cordon has been lifted, gardaí said this morning.

Gardaí were alerted after a package was delivered yesterday evening that raised concerns among staff at the Co Clare resort.

Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts were also called in to examine the package.

“A cordon was put in place around the area and the services of the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team requested,” a Garda spokesperson said today.

Investigations are ongoing, the spokesperson said.

Trump’s golf resorts have been targeted by vandals since he was re-elected as US president.

Greens at the Doonbeg golf course were damaged in March last year and a similar incident of vandalism occurred at Trump’s Turnberry resort in Scotland the following month.

In the Turnberry cases, pro-Palestine activists sprayed “GAZA IS NOT 4 SALE” in huge white letters on the lawn, damaged greens and sprayed blood-red paint over the luxury resort’s clubhouse overnight on Saturday.

The Palestine Action group said at the time it was a “direct response to the US administration’s stated intent to ethnically cleanse Gaza”.

Trump had said he wanted to turn the Palestinian territory into the “Riviera of the Middle-East”.
