IN HER VOICES piece, columnist Gwen Loughman explores the “modern renaissance” of tattoos and her own decision to get one.
Loughman describes the months of deliberation behind choosing her permanent design: “I spent several months giving careful consideration to what I was about to do. My research bordered on near obsessive levels of intensity.”
Just as well, as according to Earthweb.com, approximately 78% of people with body art regret at least one of their designs.
“With that as my North Star, I told myself I was making the right call by overthinking it to death,” she writes.
While society has grown more accepting of tattoos (and even more eager to get them), Loughman says that certain professions still quietly discourage body art, an idea she describes as rooted in “a stuffy conservatism”.
