Campervans aren't for everyone - here's where the teams are staying for the Euros
Only the best for the teams – it’ll be all fine dining and spa treatments when they’re not playing.
THE EUROS KICKED off on Friday and over the next month 24 nations will battle it out to be crowned champions.
Each team has been assigned a luxury hotel in hose country France to use as their base camp so they can rest up for the games. Let’s have a look at a few of them…
IRELAND – Trianon Palace, Versailles
The palace is a woodland retreat nestled on the edge of the tranquil Royal Doman, just 20km from Paris. The team will have access to the luxury hotel’s spa and fitness facilities while they are encamped there.
The hotel recently underwent a redesign and boasts gourmet dining including the Michelin-starred Goron Ramsey restaurant au Trianon.
According to Trivago, prices start at €174 a night at the hotel.
BELGIUM – Golf du Médoc Hotel & Spa, Bordeaux
Three of Belgium’s Group E matches take place in southern France so they’ll be staying here. The hotel has one of the most famous golf courses in the region and there are 36 holes on the site.
Its 79 rooms are furnished with flat screen TVs and fully stocked mini-bars. When they’re not on the pitch, the Belgium team will be treated to fine French cuisine in one of the hotels two restaurants or chill out in the heated swimming pool.
Prices at the golf retreat normally start at €135.
CROATIA – Hotel du Golf Barriere, Deauville
With its Chesterfield furniture and tartan fabrics, this place would probably better serve the Scottish team as a home away from home but unfortunately they failed to qualify.
So, the Croatian team get to enjoy it instead. Prices for one of the hotel’s 170 rooms and suites start at €272. Players will be able to enjoy views from their rooms of the 27 hole golf course and of the sea.
There’s also an Olympic-sized swimming pool, three tennis courts and a fitness centre.
ENGLAND - Auberge du Jeu de Paume, Chantilly
The English team is staying at this plush hotel just 25 minutes from Charles de Gaulle Airport.
A night it one of its 92 rooms will cost you at least €230. For dinner, players will be treated to meals at La Table deConnétable, which is run by a two-star Michelin chef.
And for a bit of relaxation in-between matches, they’ll can retreat to the spa.
WALES – Novotel Thalassa, Dinard
Located in the north-east of France, the Welsh team will be sleeping in rooms with these scenic views for their first international football tournament since the 1958 World Cup.
The hotel’s health centre includes a heated pool filled with sea water, a hammam and a fitness room.
ITALY - Hotel Courtyard by Marriott, Montpellier
Antonio Conte’s team will be encamped at this €119 a night hotel next to Montpellier’s city hall ahead of their Group E matches.
The hotel only opened in 2012, just four months before the start of the last European Championsip. Like the other team hotels, it has a fully equipped fitness centre and also an outdoor pool.
SPAIN - Hotel Atlante Relais Thelasso & Spa, St-Martin-de-Ré
Holders in Spain are gunning for their third European championship in a row and Vincente Del Bosque’s team will be mapping out their route to another victory at this four-start hotel.
The €272 a night hotel sits on the island of Ile de Ré, connected by bridge to La Rochelle. It is set within a five-hectare park between the sea and a number of vineyards.
Still, none of them will be having quite as much fun as the fans in the camper vans – they can keep their Michelin-star restaurants and heated pools.
