A TEENAGER HAS been arrested after a man received serious injuries in an assault in Co Offaly.

Gardaí at Birr Co Offaly are investigating the serious assault, which occurred at Main St Birr at approximately 3pm today.

They said that a male in his 50s received serious head injuries as a result of an assault.

The victim was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where his condition is described as serious.

A male (17) was arrested in connection with this incident and is currently detained at Birr Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4, Criminal Justice Act – 1984.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to contact Birr Garda Station on 057 9169710, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any garda station.
