Teenager arrested after five-year-old girl shot in south London

Young child and a second bystander were struck when youths fired shots into a grocery shop.

POLICE IN LONDON have arrested one person in their investigation of a double shooting in which a five-year-old girl and a man were seriously injured.

Thusha Kamaleswaran was shot in the chest as she visited relatives at a grocery store in Brixton, south London, on Tuesday evening.

Thirty-five-year-old Roshan Selvakumar, who is not related to the child but lives over the shop, was shot in the face.

Investigators believe three youths chased two others into the shop and fired shots through the open shop door, accidentally striking the two victims instead of their intended targets.

DCI Tony Boughton said yesterday that police have been reviewing CCTV footage of the incident and said one of the youths who ran into the shop has come forward.

Today, the BBC reports that a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A £50,000 (€56,700) reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction over the shooting.
