The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock…

EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you should know before you head out the door.

1. #JILL MEAGHER: A man has been arrested by police in Australia and is expected to be charged with the rape and murder of Jill Meagher, the Irish woman who went missing in Melbourne last Saturday morning. The man is 41 and is said to be helping authorities to locate the Drogheda woman’s body.

2. #APPOINTMENT: Labour TD Alex White is set to succeed Róisín Shortall as the Minister of State for Primary Care following last night’s dramatic resignation. The Dublin South TD is expected to have his nomination to the post formally approved at Cabinet next week. Meanwhile, Social Protection Minister Joan Burton has paid tribute to Shortall in the Dáil today.

3. #OVERPAID: The Department of Education overpaid teachers and other school staff €1.1 million last year because of a delay in implementing pay cuts for new entrants, a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General has found. In its annual report, the C&AG said that the 10 per cent pay cut for new entrants across the public sector was not applied until summer 2011, a seven-month delay.

4. #WITHDRAWN: Dublin Airport Authority and Aer Lingus workers who are members of SIPTU have withdrawn their planned strike action for this Monday after an agreement was reached to attend the Labour Relations Commission.

5. #BEING IRISH: So you may have heard about British Prime Minister David Cameron failing a semi-serious British citizenship test on US TV last night but that gave us the idea to develop our own Irish Citizenship Test. So you think you’re Irish? Well try these 20 questions and prove it.
