1. #RIP: The funerals of Eoghan and Ruairi Chada will take place in their hometown in Carlow today. Their father, Sanjeev Chada, was charged in connection with their murders last night.

2. #BANK OF IRELAND: Bank of Ireland has reported a pre-tax loss of €504 million for the first half of this year, narrowing the shortfall of €1.2 billion reported during the same period last year.

3. #AIB: The chief executive of AIB has said that one in five people in mortgage arrears are able to pay their mortgages but have made a ‘strategic’ decision not to. Speaking after the bank announced a half-year loss of €572 milion, David Duffy said the bank will start getting tough on homeowners in arrears.

4. #PROPERTY TAX: Homeowners who have failed to pay the Local Property Tax will begin to have funds deducted at source by their employers and pension providers from next week, unless they pay the tax in the meantime, the Office of the Revenue Commissioners has said.

5. #SUSI: Student grant system SUSI has extended the closing date for grant applications for this academic year by 12 hours after the website was hit with technical problems last night as the deadline drew near. The new application deadline is noon today.

6. #GP VISITS: Over a third of Irish people have avoided a visit to their GP over the last year because of financial constraints, a new survey has revealed. Six per cent of parents also said they could not afford to bring a sick child to the doctor over the past 12 months.

7. #EMBASSIES: The United States is to close a number of its embassies in Abu Dhabi, Baghdad and Cairo this Sunday because of unspecified “security considerations”, Reuters reports.

8. #CHILE: An investigation into the 2010 Chilean mine collapse, which left 33 miners trapped underground for more than two months, has sparked fury after it failed to name anyone responsible for the incident, reports the BBC.

9. #BRIGHT SPARK: Thirteen-year-old Waterford tech entrepreneur Jordan Casey has given a keynote talk at the Apple Store in Soho, Manhattan, at which he launched two of his latest apps.
