1. #ANGLO TAPES: The latest report from the Irish Independent on the Anglo Tapes reveals that executives at the bank knew about the financial trouble it was in a year before the government’s blanket guarantee. It is reported that executives even discussed denying getting loans of €360 million from the European Central Bank to investors.

2. #BAILOUT: The government is at loggerheads with the Troika over our next budget as it seeks to ease back on harsh cuts and tax hikes in order to stimulate the domestic economy, The Irish Times reports. The Troika has different ideas as it expressed concern that we may not reach our export targets next year.

3. #PINTS: A number of TDs were drinking during the abortion debate, it has emerged, with one or two “a bit wobbly”. However TDs have sought to downplay the controversy over the Dáil bar being open until 5am Thursday morning, with one telling TheJournal.ie that levels were not as high as the night of the promissory notes debate which they described as “f**king mayhem”.

4. #BELFAST: Police have been injured and a North Belfast MP knocked unconscious during six hours of rioting yesterday, BBC reports. The riots broke out yesterday evening after Orangemen were stopped by police from marching through the narionalist Ardoyne area.

5. #CRECHES: The latest HSE Inspection reports on pre-schools, released yesterday, show that 60 per cent of the creches mentioned were criticised for not having garda vetting records in order, the Irish Daily Mail reports . In one creche, children had access to a cupboard containing a rodent bait box and in another they were left playing with shaving foam.

6. #SNOWDEN: The White House has criticised Russia for allowing Edward Snowden to meet with human rights activists yesterday, AP reports. White House spokesman Jay Carney said Russia should instead send Snowden back to the US to face the felony charges that are pending against him.

7. #FRANCE: Rescue efforts are continuing this morning after a train derailed in Paris yesterday, with at lease six people killed and more than 20 injured. BBC reports that there is a strong possibility that the number of fatalities could rise and some of the victims were very seriously injured.

8. #INDONESIA: Police in Indonesia are searching for 131 inmates who escaped from an overcrowded jail during a riot that left five people dead, AFP reports. Prisoners started rampaging in the jail on Thursday, setting fires and hurling bottles at guards in anger over power cuts and water shortages.

9. #EEL ATTACK: If you’re planning on having a swim off the coast of Galway today, be alert and on the look out for an angry-looking eel. A scuba diver has told The Sun about a vicious attack on him by a conger eel which latched onto his face and tore a huge chunk off.
