A FRENCH BANK will soon allow Twitter users to send money to people they know through the service.
Groupe BPCE, Europe’s second-largest bank by branches, and its online payments service S-Money is preparing a service which will give users the ability to “simply tweet money to one another.
It’s expected that the service will be made available to all Twitter users in France this week, regardless of the bank they’re with. It also doesn’t require the sender to know the recipient’s banking details, according to Reuters.
Payments will be dealt with by S-Money, which currently allows users to transfer money via SMS.
The move comes after a number of companies have started making their move in the mobile payments market.
Last month, Twitter unveiled its own service which would allow users to buy goods directly through a tweet. The company partnered with Stripe to power the service and is being tested in the US for now
Facebook is also said to be working on a similar service for Facebook Messenger after a payment service was found hidden in the app, while Apple Pay is rumoured to be launching this week.
The bank will hold a press conference tomorrow where it will provide more details about the service.
