Twitter to double its Dublin workforce

The firm announced 100 new jobs at the official opening of its European headquarters today.

TWITTER IS LOOKING to hire 100 more people by the end of next year, it announced during the official opening of its European headquarters in Dublin today.

The expansion plans will see the firm’s workforce double to more than 200 over the next 15 months.

Recruitment has already started for more than 30 roles, including legal, HR, sales, marketing and engineering positions.

An event to mark the opening of the Dublin office will be attended by rugby player Jamie Heaslip who says the micro-blogging site has allowed him give people an insight into a professional sportsperson’s lifestyle.

The man behind the popular @irishmammies account, Colm O’Regan, will also share his thoughts on the service.

IDA Ireland, which has welcomed the announcement, said the expansion solidifies the capital’s position as the company’s second largest site in the world, after the US.

Twitter has about 200 million active users across the world and over 500 million tweets are sent each day.

According to the company, last Sunday’s All-Ireland final between Mayo and Dublin prompted more than 70,000 tweets, while the Rose of Tralee festival saw 45,000 mentions over the two days.
