TWITTER HAS UNVEILED new photo and video sharing features and says it is unrolling a new search service for the site, claiming it will bring “more relevant Tweets where you search for something or click on a trending topic”.

On its official blog, the company said today that it would be introducing a feature “to upload a photo and attach it to your Tweet right from Twitter.com” over the coming weeks.

Twitter says it’s working with mobile companies to facilitate users who do not have smartphones and want to post their photos on Twitter via text.

The top video and photo results for searches will be shown along the right-hand side of the Twitter screen, according to a video (see below) released by Twitter today.

Speaking at the D9 Conference on media and technology in California today, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said “users will own their own rights to photos”. The photos will be hosted by Photobucket and Costolo said Twitter would not retain an archive of every photo posted to the site, unlike Facebook.
