Two arrested over Co Wicklow firearms

Two guns were discovered in a car searched at a garda checkpoint in Ashford yesterday.

GARDAÍ IN CO WICKLOW arrested two people yesterday after recovering two firearms from a car.

The car was stopped and searched at a garda checkpoint on the N11 at Coynes Cross, Ashford at around 11.20am yesterday.

Two guns were discovered during the search and gardaí arrested the car’s two occupants, a man and a woman both aged in their 20s.

They were taken to Wicklow Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939. The man remains in custody this evening and is expected to appear in court tomorrow morning.

The woman has been released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
