IRELAND IS IN for the coldest temperatures so far this season over the next few days.
Met Éireann has said that temperatures will be between 7 and 11 degrees in most places today, before dropping to as low as 3 or 4 degrees on Saturday.
A spokesperson said that Ireland will be affected by a northern polar air flow which could see some snow on higher ground, with Donegal most likely to see the white stuff.
However, other counties could also get “a light dusting” of snow, particularly higher areas and those close to the Atlantic.
“It’s not impossible the Dublin Mountains would get some snow,” the spokesperson said, adding: “Tomorrow night into Saturday will feel a lot colder.”
Today will be cool and breezy, with scattered heavy showers – especially in western and northern areas. Showers will continue tonight and patchy frost is expected in some midland areas.
Tomorrow will see sunny spells and scattered heavy rain and hail showers, particularly in Ulster.
Afternoon temperatures will reach 4 to 8 degrees Celsius before dropping overnight.
After a colder Saturday, with scattered hail showers, sleet and some wet snow, temperatures will recover slightly on Sunday – hitting around 6-9 degrees.
Monday will be cold and mostly dry. From Tuesday onwards, milder temperatures are expected to return again.
During the week almost 50,000 homes were left without electricity for a time as a result of Storm Barney, which saw winds up to 130km per hour in certain areas.
