Woman questioned over Co Roscommon fire released

The woman was questioned by gardaí over the fire in Boyle, Co Roscommon on 3 October in which a young girl died.

A WOMAN WHO was being questioned by gardaí over a fatal fire in Co Roscommon has been released.

Gardaí confirmed that the woman was released last night without charge.

The investigation is ongoing and presently there are no other people being questioned by gardaí over the incident.

Gardaí believe the fire was started maliciously.

The victim was named locally as five-year-old Mari Connolly. She, her father and two sisters were in the house at the time.

Her father and sisters escaped but Mari died in the blaze.

The fire occurred at a house on Termon Road, Boyle, Co Roscommon between 2.30am and 3am

Gardaí said they were not commenting on reports that a suspect in the case is well known to the gardaí, as reported in the Sunday World today.
