Hey Cal, what’s the emigration figures for Iceland as a percentage of total population?

i don’t know Ned, do you ? I am sure you are asking that, as a loaded question, or do you not know how to Google these stats for yourself?

I just ran the numbers for you Ned…
In 2011 1,000 people left the country which equates to 0.003% of the population.
In the same time period, 87,000 left Ireland, which equates to 0.019% of the population.

So, in other words, Ireland had 5 times more emigration per head of population versus Iceland.

The article also states that the eimgration trend in Iceland continues downwards, while Irelands is increasing.
Coupling the emigration and unemployment figures, it paints an even darker comparison.

Cheers, well maybe it was kind of a loaded question. I actually thought it was much higher and I stand corrected. I have no issues with any of your other points except maybe that a bank default wouldn’t help fund our massive public sector and social welfare bills!

The “EU Presidency” rotates between individual Member States every 6 months. It’s currently held by Cyprus. It’s not held by an individual but by the Government of the State. It has nothing to do with bondholders, “the elite” etc….
