The High Table Interview

Would Leo be a better leader than Enda? We asked this Fine Gael TD (four times)

Eoghan Murphy has defended Enda Kenny, but what does he think about Leo Varadkar as a future Fine Gael leader?

FINE GAEL TD Eoghan Murphy has said the party needs to find a way to reconnect with voters in the wake of another poor poll showing yesterday.

Fine Gael has dropped to 19 per cent in the latest Ipsos MRBI poll for the Irish Times. As well as this, Enda Kenny is now rated as the most unpopular party leader in the country leading to questions about his future ahead of a no confidence motion in the Dáil next week.

Murphy told TheJournal.ie that Fine Gael needs to find a way to communicate with voters more effectively.

“If we’re not communicating with our voters, if we’re not communicating with the electorate, if they don’t understand what we’re doing, then we’ll see things like low poll results,” he said.

While Murphy praised the Taoiseach as someone who has done ”a huge amount work” for the country we had to ask him four times whether Leo Varadkar would make a better leader.

Here’s what he said:
