PRESIDENT MICHAEL D Higgins has visited the grave of deposed Chilean leader Salvador Allende on the fourth day of his visit to South America.
The president, accompanied by his wife Sabina and junior minister Joe Costello also visited home of poet and diplomat Pablo Neruda.
He has already met with the president of Chile and is due to meet with the leaders of Brazil and Argentina later this week. He will travel to Brazil later today where he will be accompanied by more than 40 Irish companies and education institutions as part of a major trade mission.
