Limerick murder: No evidence of a break-in, gardaí say
The body of 54-year-old Martin Purcell was found in his apartment in Limerick city centre yesterday morning.

THERE WAS NO evidence of a break-in at the Limerick flat where Martin Purcell was found stabbed to death yesterday, gardaí have said.
The body was found at a premises on Wickham Street at around 11am yesterday morning. A post mortem carried out last night showed he died from several stab wounds.
A garda spokesperson this afternoon told TheJournal.ie that there was no evidence of a forced entry into the flat where Mr Purcell was found. He added that a full-scale murder investigation is now under way into the killing.
It’s reported that Mr Purcell was a father of two. The Irish Examiner reports that he had suffered stab wounds to the throat.
Purcell had been living alone in the apartment on Wickham Street for several years. The alarm was raised by another resident. Gardaí have said that it’s not clear how many days the body may have lain in the flat.
