Pensioner dies after confronting burglar in his home

The alarm was raised by the man’s wife after the burglar entered their home in Coleraine in Derry in the early hours of this morning.

A 72-YEAR-OLD MAN has died after he confronted a burglar in his home in Derry in the early hours of this morning.

Police in Northern Ireland have said the pensioner was involved in an altercation with the intruder who broke into the house in Glenmore Gardens in the Mountsandel area of Coleraine at around 1.30am today. He died shortly afterwards.

The alarm was raised by the man’s wife, who was also in the house at the time.

Police in Northern Ireland have appealed for anyone with information who may have seen anything suspicious in the Glens area of Coleraine to contact them.

The intruder is described as being tall, wearing a dark coloured coat, light grey tracksuit bottoms, and with a local accent.
