Kayakers rescue man found floating in sea off Clare coast

He is believed to have fallen into the water from a pier.

A MAN IN his 40s is recovering today after being found floating in the sea off the coast of Clare over the weekend.

The man was taken to hospital at around 12.10pm on Saturday, after a nearby group of kayakers spotted him in the water close to Quilty pier at 10.39am, a Coast Guard spokesperson said.

The Kilkee Coast Guard arrived on the scene to find that the group had pulled him from the sea and safely brought him ashore.

The man, who is believed to have fallen from the pier, was transferred to University Limerick Hospital by ambulance.

The rescue comes just days after a man’s body was recovered off Caherush Point near Quilty on Wednesday.

Clare native Stephen Mungovan (20) is understood to have fallen from a cliff early on Monday morning.
