EARLIER THIS YEAR, a brazen thief entered the Carlton Hotel in Cannes and made off with €103 million worth of jewels.

The armed hold-up took place on the famous promenade in the French Riviera town, with the thief making off on foot.

The CCTV of the incident has been obtained by French newspaper Nice Matin, after police agreed to allow the publication of the video in an attempt to catch the perpetrator.

As staff are loading necklaces into an exhibition, the thief enters with a gun, pointing it at staff. The unarmed guards are powerless as the man grabs a bag containing the jewellery.

Police say that they had no idea such an amount of jewellery was being brought to the store, hence the lack of security.

The robbery has been linked to the Pink Panther crime syndicate. Several of their members escaped from jail in the period before the robbery.

The group is believed to have netted £380million from previous robberies.
