Israel strikes Iran

1. Israel launched strikes on nuclear sites and army commanders in Iran early this morning, with the latter responding with approximately 100 drones.

The leader of Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard was killed, Iranian state television reported. Another top Guard official, as well as two nuclear scientists, are also feared dead.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a message to his nation that Israel “sealed for itself a bitter and painful destiny”.

India crash death toll rises

2. The number of lives lost when a London-bound Air India plane crashed in Western India yesterday has risen to 265 people.

The deceased include people who were on the plane and those who were in buildings at the site of the crash.

Tánaiste seeks investigation

3. Simon Harris urged An Garda Síochána to look into what he called the “haunting scenes” of mistreatment of residents at nursing homes highlighted by an RTÉ documentary last week.

Violence continues in the North

4. Last night saw the fourth night of violence against PSNI officers by what the force described as “bigots and racists” as disorder spread to multiple towns across the region, including Portadown.

5. A residence in Clondalkin, Dublin 22 was searched following the arrest of a man in his 60s on suspicion of the murder of Annie McCarrick in 1993. The man has reportedly been on the radar of investigators for years.

Paul Murphy in Cairo

6. People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy arrived in Cairo, Egypt last night to join up with a group of activists intending to conduct a three-day peaceful march to the Rafah crossing – a border checkpoint between Egypt and Gaza.

Weinstein mistrial declared

7. The judge in the sex crimes case against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein declared a mistrial on one outstanding rape charge following a “heated” disagreement amongst the jury.

US Senator manhandled

8. A senator from California was forcibly removed from a press conference held by Donald Trump’s homeland security chief Kristi Noem yesterday after asking about the targeting of immigrants in the state.

“I’m Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary,” he said as two men pushed and shoved him from the room.

Hegseth on Greeland

9. US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth refused to rule out his country taking Greenland and Panama by force when questioned at a congressional hearing yesterday.

“Our job at the Defence Department is to have plans for any contingency,” he repeatedly said in response to yes or no questions about the Pentagon’s intentions regarding the two territories.
