1. In our main story this morning, Mairead Maguire reports that residents of a small village in Waterford have said they’ve been blindsided by plans to build a massive multi-billion-euro data centre on the site of a former cheese factory.

More than 300 people have objected to the technology park in Kilmeaden, around twelve kilometres outside of Waterford city, which would drastically transform the village.

2. Permanent TSB bank has gone up for sale – giving the State an opportunity to remove its last share in an Irish bank 17 years after it bailed out banks during the financial crash.

3. The British government spent over €4 million defending Soldier F, a former paratrooper who was last week acquitted of the murders of two men and the attempted murders of five men during the events of Bloody Sunday in 1972.

4. US President Donald Trump has said he will lower tariffs on Chinese imports following a meeting with President Xi Jinping, which he described as a “great success”.

5. Hurricane Melissa has left dozens of people dead and widespread destruction across Cuba, Haiti and Jamaica, where roofless homes, fallen utility poles and water-logged furniture dominate the landscape.

6. French police have arrested five new people, including a main suspect, over this month’s daring jewellery theft from the Louvre museum.

7. A woman in her 80s has died following a single-vehicle collision near Cill Riáin, Co Donegal.

8. A “strange light” moving across the sky was spotted across parts of Ireland yesterday evening.
