1. #DEATH: A man has died after he and another person were rescued from the Avoca River in Wicklow this morning. The second person rescued has been hospitalised.

2. #ANGLO: A former senior executive at Anglo Irish Bank, Matt Moran, has been given immunity from prosecution as part of the criminal investigation into the now defunct bank, according to the Irish Times. Simon Carswell writes that Moran was the second most senior financial officer at Anglo.

3. #HOMELESSNESS: The problem is homelessness is now worse than ever before, according to Fr Peter McVerry, founder of the McVerry Trust, which is launching its annual report today. It served 57,000 hot meals to 3,500 people last year.

4. #STUDENTS: A fifth of female students are subject to an unwanted sexual experience while in education according to new research out this morning. The USI’s ‘Say Something’ study says that overall 16 per cent of students are subject to an unwanted sexual experience.

5. #SYRIA: US president Barack Obama has suggested that plans to intervene in Syria could be put on hold if the country agrees to place its chemical weapons under international control. Obama gave six different interviews to US networks overnight and will address the nation from the Oval Office tonight.

6. #INDIA: All four men accused of gang raping and murdering a student on board a bus in New Delhi last year have been found guilty by a judge this morning and now face possible death sentences. The brutal attack sparked violent protests in India last December.

7. #HOTELS: The price of staying at a hotel in Ireland has risen  in the first six months of this year. Killarney is now Ireland’s most expensive town in which to stay in a hotel, according to the Hotel Price Index.

8. #COWEN TALKS: Fine Gael has hit out at former taoiseach Brian Cowen for his comments about the financial crisis being unforeseen. TD Damien English writes for TheJournal.ie that Ireland “was on course for an economic collapse regardless of external economic factors”.

9. #APPLE: Apple is set to unveil two new iPhones later today with the Wall Street Journal reporting that the more expensive model, the iPhone 5s, will include a fingerprint scanner.
