The 9 at 9 Bulgaria wins Eurovision, Ebola outbreak in DRC declared global health emergency and three dead following separate road traffic collisions.

Here’s all the news you need to know as you start the day.

Eurovision

1. Bulgaria were announced as surprise winners of the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna last night, beating Israel into second place. 

Pop star DARA’s nonsense dance anthem, Bangaranga, topped the table with 516 points as the final public votes were announced, finishing well ahead of Israel’s Noam Bettan on 343.

Ebola

2. The World Health Organisation has declared an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a “public health emergency of international concern”.

Some 88 deaths and 336 suspected cases of the highly contagious haemorrhagic fever have been reported so far, though the WHO said the outbreak does not meet the criteria of a pandemic emergency.

Loughlinstown

3. A pedestrian in her 20s has died after being struck by a car on the N11 Bray Road in Loughlinstown at around 11.50pm.

The coroner has been notified and the scene has been preserved for technical examination.

Birchhill

4. Two people have died and four others have been injured in a road crash between two vehicles in Co Donegal.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash on the N15 shortly after 2pm.

5. A man in his 60s who was arrested in connection with the death of a man in his 30s at a house in north Dublin has been released without charge.

Pensions

Belfast

7. Police in Northern Ireland have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in east Belfast.

The PSNI believe the assault took place at around 4.45am on Tuesday after a number of intruders entered an apartment building.
