1. #WEATHER: More misery on the way for some as gale force winds and storm surges are expected to hit Ireland’s coastal areas tonight with Met Éireann saying there will be severe winds in some areas.

2. #FIRE: Over half-a-dozen people were rescued from a fire in south inner city Dublin in the early hours of this morning. Three adults and five children were rescued from the blaze at Thomas Court.

3. #REFORM CONFERENCE: The Reform Alliance is to hold ‘a national conversation on Ireland’s future’ at the RDS on 25 January. The grouping of former Fine Gael TDs and Senators has launched a website this morning and the Sunday Independent describes the event as ‘Lucinda’s Monster Meeting’.

4. #TRADE MISSION: Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Jobs Minister Richard Bruton have begun the first full day of the government’s trade mission to Gulf in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh today with the aim of drumming up trade and investment for Ireland.

5. #IED: An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe an improvised explosive device (IED) in Carrickmines, Dublin late last night. A Defence Forces Team deployed to the Ballyogan area at around 10pm with a number of houses evacuated and roads closed.

6. #SPEND BABY, SPEND: With Ireland exiting the bailout, a Sunday Times survey has found that many are planning to splash out in the coming year with more than half of people polled planning an overseas holiday while a quarter plan to renovate or extend their home.

7. #WOAH  BABY, WOAH: But while consumers may be preparing to splash out, government departments have been warned that spending will still be tightly controlled in the coming years despite the exit of the EU/IMF officials, according to Pat Leahy in the Sunday Business Post.

8. #BANGLADESH: Protesters have been fire-bombing polling stations and stealing ballot papers as parliamentary elections are held in Bangladesh today. With the main opposition party boycotting the poll, international observers say the vote is not credible.

9. #DEATH: Portuguese soccer legend Eusebio has died, it is being reported this morning. The former Benfica striker was 71 and is widely considered to have been one of the greatest players of all-time who sometimes had to be fouled just to be stopped:
