Sunderland footballer Adam Johnson to plead 'not guilty' to child sex offences

FOOTBALLER ADAM JOHNSON is facing three offences of sexual activity and one count of grooming with a girl aged under 16.

The court heard today that he plans to deny the charges and plead not guilty.

The English footballer held hands with his girlfriend Stacey Flounders as they arrived at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court.

The 27-year-old from Castle Eden, County Durham, has a four-month-old daughter with Flounders.

The court heard today that the three counts of sexual activity with a child are said to have happened on one night in January at two locations in Durham, BBC reports.

The grooming offence is alleged to have happened between December and February.

The footballer made no comment as he left and was driven away in a Range Rover.

No pleas were entered today. Johnson is due to appear before Durham Crown Court on 3 June.
