Woman killed and man injured after being hit by a car while out walking in Monaghan

The woman was airlifted to hospital but later died.

A 53-YEAR-old woman has died after she was knocked down near Castleblayney, Monaghan, this afternoon.

The incident happened on the N2 at Clonavogy shortly after 1pm. The woman was treated by emergency services at the scene and taken by air ambulance to St James’s Hospital in Dublin where she was later pronounced dead.

A second pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was also stuck by the car. He sustained minor injuries.

A garda spokesman said: “The road is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. Garda forensic collision investigators have been requested to examine the scene. The coroner has been notified of the death.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Castleblayney garda station 042-9747900 or the garda confidential line 1800 666 111.”
