PEOPLE FLYING IN or out of Ireland have been advised to check their flight status with their airline as snowy conditions hit parts of the country.

An Aer Lingus flight due to leave Dublin Airport at 8.45pm for Heathrow Airport in London has been cancelled.

Dublin Airport has said it is spraying its main runway “as a preventative measure”. TheJournal.ie has contacted the aiport to see if any other flights have been affected.

There are currently a number of weather warnings in place:

• A status orange snow-ice warning for Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo
• A status yellow snow-ice warning for Munster, Leinster, Galway and Roscommon
• A status yellow gale warning on coastal waters and the Irish Sea

Met Éireann has said it will remain cold this evening, with scattered showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow, some of them heavy and thundery, mainly in Atlantic coastal counties. Temperatures will dip to below freezing in certain areas tonight.

It says tomorrow will be a cold, bright day, with good sunny spells in most parts.

There’ll also be scattered showers, mostly of rain, hail and sleet, with some snow – mainly on high ground. Maximum temperatures will reach three to six degrees Celsius.
