REVENUE OFFICERS SEIZED cigarettes, tobacco, vodka and a car after they carried out a search on a house in Cork today.
Detector dog Harvey helped in the search and seizure which was carried out on a property in Skibbereen.
In total, officers seized:
The cigarettes are branded Marlboro Gold and NZ Superslim Gold and the tobacco is branded Amber Leaf and Drum. The vodka is branded Hlibniy Dar, which is of Ukrainian origin.
Officers estimate that the tobacco products have an estimated retail value of over €40,000, representing a loss of approximately €32,000 to the exchequer.
Another car was also detained for possible evasion of vehicle road tax.
A Lithuanian man in his 40s was questioned and investigations are continuing with a view to prosecute.
Revenue said that the seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.
