Eyeshadow palette from Irish brand SOSU Cosmetics recalled over arsenic content

The palette has been withdrawn from the market.

AN EYESHADOW PALETTE produced by the Irish beauty brand SOSU Cosmetics has been recalled due to the unsafe presence of arsenic in the product.

The EU rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products has sent out a warning that the ‘Peach Dreams’ palette, batch number 20210405 from SOSU Cosmetics has been recalled and should not be used.

The palette was made in China.

Inspectors found that it contains “an excessive concentration of arsenic in some of the shade powder colours”.

In particular, the shades ‘Creme’, ‘Sorbet’, and ‘Peach’ were flagged for their arsenic content.

“Arsenic may cause cancer, may damage fertility or the unborn child, [and it] causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure,” the alert read.

The alert said that the product did not comply with the EU’s Cosmetic Products Regulation, and that the distributor has taken action to withdraw it from the market.

SOSU Cosmetics was founded by the Irish businesswoman Suzanne Jackson ten years ago.

The company sells over 100 skin and beauty products.

It employs over 20 people and its products are sold in over 2,000 stores in Ireland.
