'I had no idea': Girlfriend of Becky Watts' stepbrother 'felt sick' after his admission

“I can’t even look at him,” Shauna Hoare told police.

THE GIRLFRIEND OF the man who admitted killing Becky Watts has denied any knowledge of the incident occurring at her home in Bristol.

Shauna Hoare has said she was not aware her boyfriend Nathan Mathews had killed the 16 year old, his stepsister, and then hidden her body.

In a videoed interview with police, the woman said she “genuinely had no idea”. A transcript of her interview was read out in court as Hoare faces charges including murder and conspiracy to kidnap.

“I can’t even look at him. I was sat in the courtroom today and I just wanted to, I say kill him, but that’s a bad choice of words,” she told them.

I felt sick looking at him knowing what he did. And yeah I didn’t always like Becky, but she was a nice enough girl, she was so young and the fact that we’ve got a little girl ourselves, I’m carrying his unborn children, I don’t understand how he could have done it to us.

Prosecutors say Hoare and Matthews carried out a sexually-motivated attack on the teen and then hid her body in February of this year.

Hoare denies murder, conspiracy to kidnap, a weapons charge, perverting the course of justice and preventing a burial. Matthews admits killing the teenager but denies murder and conspiring to kidnap her.

When asked why she had not questioned her boyfriend’s suspicious behaviour in the period after the young girl’s disappearance, Hoare said:

“I didn’t think she had come to harm. I just assumed she was safe somewhere.”
