Berlusconi says Milan could become "Gypsytown" if his candidate is not elected

Berlusconi warns Milan could “turn into an Islamic city, a Gypsytown full of Roma camps, besieged by foreigners to whom the left wants to give the right to vote”.

ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER Silvio Berlusconi has warned the residents of Milan that their city could become “Gypsytown” and be “besieged by foreigners” if his party’s candidate is not elected as mayor.

Berlusconi said that Milan would be overrun by the far-left if incumbent Mayor Letizia Moratti is not re-elected; she faces a second round of elections this week after being defeated in the first count, the BBC reports.

In typically unreserved style, Berslusconi outlined the dangers ahead for residents that failed to heed his words, saying Milan could “turn into an Islamic city, a zingaropoli [Gypsytown] full of Roma camps, besieged by foreigners to whom the left wants to give the right to vote”.

“A city like [Milan] will surely not want to hand itself over to the far left with the risk of becoming a disorderly, chaotic and unsafe city,” he added.
