AN INVESTIGATION HAS been launched in to the source of a bad odour comng from some batches of Aldi mineral water.

A number of customers have been in touch with the company to report the smell from batches of Comeragh Sports water, with some posting their concerns online.

One woman on the ‘Anyone Know?’ Facebook page said there was a “horrible” smell off the water, which was available at her workplace. She said the manufacturers replaced the water.

Another woman also said her three cases of bottled water had been replaced, adding that the company took away the affected batches for testing. One commenter expressed concern that the water may have given her young daughter a stomach ache.

However TheJournal.ie understands manufacturers Glenpatrick Spring Water have conducted tests and found nothing to indicate any health risks. The product would already have undergone quality control tests before it hit the shelves.

On its website, Aldi describes the water as being “rich in calcium and magnesium with a clearly distinctive taste”.

In a statement, Aldi said it is investigating any complaints in relation to its Comeragh Springs Sports Water 12 X 500ml.

If any customer is unsatisfied with this product please return it to any Aldi store to receive a full refund.

The company said customer satisfaction and ensuring the quality of products “is of the utmost importance”.
