FINE GAEL MEP Brian Hayes was a familiar face for anyone with even a casual interest in Irish politics when he was a junior minister.
The former Dublin South-West TD was regularly sent out to bat for the coalition in its first three years in office. But last year he took the somewhat surprising decision to contest the European elections for the party in Dublin, winning the last of three seats.
