Man due in court over murder of Brigid Maguire

The Westmeath woman had two children.

A MAN IN his 50s is due to appear before a sitting of Longford District Court this afternoon in connection with the murder of a Westmeath woman.

The body of Brigid Maguire was found at a house in the village of Ballynacargy some time around 9.30pm on Saturday night.

Gardaí launched a murder investigation after receiving the results of a post-mortem examination.

A man in his 50s was arrested in Mullingar on Sunday evening and detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He would ordinarily have been released at least 12 hours after his arrest, but gardaí extended his detention period yesterday.
