THE CRIMINAL ASSET Bureau’s online auction for a ladies Rolex watch – which was seized from a Limerick criminal – ended today with a bid €1,000 over the original asking price.
TheJournal.ie revealed earlier this month that the used Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust, worth about €9,000, was being sold through eBay.
The winning bid for the timepiece was €7,000.
Selling under the name ‘proceedsofcrimeact1996‘, CAB described the item as a Christmas present from 2011. It comes with the original box, documentation and a 24-month jewellers guarantee from Keanes of Cork, Limerick and Killarney.
According to the description on eBay, the sale of the watch arises from an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act, 1997 and 2005 and is being sold by the Court-appointed Receiver.
Gardaí said it is the first online auction of CAB’s seized items and it is being treated as an experiment.
